90 Day Challenge Day 38

It's day 38 of my 90 Day Challenge where I'm learning Japanese intensively. Since my last post (Day 10) I've learned a lot! My learning activities changed a bit too.

After reading two manga volumes I started reading a novel with lots of furigana. It's the novel version of Disneys movie "Alice in Wonderland". I enjoyed the movie so I thought it would be a great source for learning some Japanese. It's fairly easy to understand and Sentence Picking is a lot of fun.

I also watched some episodes of my favourite anime and noticed that I understand much more than last time I watched it! In the anime they used a lot of words and expressions I learned by playing Bravely Second: End Layer. In this video game they have audio for most of the dialogues. To hear these words and expressions while playing the game may have helped to recognize them in the anime, I think.

My central learning activity is reviewing sentences and kanji by using Anki. I changed the card format of my kanji deck. Now I try to tell the meaning by seeing the kanji (kanji -> keyword). The reason is simple: I noticed, that I have great difficulties with recognizing the meaning in my reading sessions. That's why I want to learn it the way I need it.

In the last couple of weeks I exchanged text messages with some natives via HelloTalk for writing practice. I noticed that I'm not confident in writing because of my weak grammar knowledge. I can read and understand a lot, but using this passive knowledge with confidence is very difficult.

I heard of a guy who learned the content from the popular Genki series (both volumes) and after that he could speak to native speakers quite fluently about everything. Not because he knew every word, but because he was able to describe what he want to say. So I thought it would be a good idea to try this course out! By improving my basics I want to learn to express myself in an more efficient and confident way.
